The Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Stuart Skinner to a 3 year contract extension.
The club announced that they had come to terms with the 24 year old netminder on a deal that will total $7.8M and carry an AAV of $2.6M per season.
Skinner, who is currently playing on a 2yr/$750K contract was set to become an RFA at season’s end. Currently 9-8-1 with a 2.83 GAA and .915 SV%, the Edmonton native is currently seeing the ice more frequently than prized free agent acquisition Jack Campbell of late.
Campbell, who was brought in on a 5yr/$5M contract in the offseason is currently inked through the 2026-27 campaign, but has scuffled to an 8-6 record with an ugly .875 SV% and 4.04 GAA.
Originally selected in the 3rd round (78th overall) by the Oilers in 2017, Skinner provides the club with some stability in net should Campbell continue to struggle.
Skinner is on pace to set new career highs in virtually every statistical category, but is still very raw in terms of experience with a total of 33 games at the NHL level. Edmonton meanwhile continues to try to find balance between their high powered offense, and their often underwhelming defense and goaltending as they attempt to finally break through in the postseason.
