NHL Ironman streak record holder Keith Yandle has announced his retirement from professional hockey on Tuesday.
Appearing on an episode of the “Spittin Chiclets” podcast Tuesday morning, the veteran blue liner revealed that he has decided to hang up his skates after a 17 year NHL career.
Originally drafted in the 4th round (105th overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2005, the Boston native accumulated 619pts (103G, 516A) in 1109 games played as a member of the Coyotes, Rangers, Panthers, and Flyers organizations.
The 36 year old enjoyed a career year in 2018-19 as a member of the Florida Panthers organization tallying 62pts (9G, 53A) across 82 contests. Beginning on March 26th 2009, Yandle would go on to play in an NHL record 989 consecutive contests, surpassing Doug Jarvis’ previous high water mark of 964 straight games.
The former Moncton Wildcat is fresh off a 1 year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers after being bought out by the Panthers following the 2020-21 campaign.
