Tottenham Show Interest in Weston McKennie

Tottenham interested in signing Weston McKennie

The Spurs have been one of the most active clubs during this transfer window and it seems that they aren’t ready to stop spending on the market. According to the English newspaper Daily Mail, the club from North London are interested in signing Weston McKennie and Juventus would consider a €40 million offer enough to sell the midfielder.

Despite the fact that the Italian club are open to selling the 23-year-old midfielder to raise funds to buy Nicolò Zaniolo, AS Roma’s midfielder, Paul Pogba’s meniscus injury could be a hurdle for the Spurs during negotiations.

It’s been reported that the French midfielder could lose the first two months of the upcoming season and the club understands that the American midfielder is the right replacement for Pogba while he is out, which could dampen any potential deal.

“With the French midfielder out, the 35-cap international is viewed as the most likely replacement and Juve could decide to postpone any talks of a sale until Pogba has recovered,” wrote Alvise Cagnazzo, Daily Mail’s reporter.

If Pogba’s injury proves to be a dealbreaker in the McKennie negotiation, Fabio Paratici, Spurs managing director of football, could play an important role in the player’s deal.

He was responsible for bringing the American midfielder from the German side Schalke to Juventus, when he was the director of football at the Italian club, and has been willing to bring McKennie to North London since his arrival in 2021.

McKennie’s signing would represent the third player coming from Juventus that the Italian manager would bring to North London, as Paratici also hired Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski last season.

The report also stated that the former FC Dallas player was praised by Antonio Conte, Spurs coach, for his physicality, dynamic style and versatility.

The American is admired at his current club and was named as ‘the best American player in Europe’ by Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus coach, at the beginning of the week.

“McKennie is probably the best American player playing in Europe,” Allegri said. “I think it’s very important for him to continue showing the high levels that he has at Juve.”

The American international arrived at Turin in the summer of 2020 following his four seasons at Schalke 04. Since then, the midfielder has played 75 matches, scored 10 goals and provided three assists representing the colors of the ‘Old Lady’.
