Brazilian Side Interested in Fabregas

Cesc Fàbregas is offered to Botafogo

It has been a dynamic week for the Brazilian side Botafogo. Earlier this week, the club made their first offer to have James Rodriguez as their attacking midfielder and now another football star could have Rio de Janeiro as his next destination.

According to the Brazilian journalist Gustavo Hofman, from ESPN Brazil, Cesc Fàbregas was offered to Botafogo by his agent.. The journalist also said that John Textor, the club’s majority shareholder, has the final word regarding the player’s situation.

“The decision on whether or not to hire Fàbregas by Glorioso will be up to the American businessman John Textor, owner of 90% of the shares of SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol) of the carioca club,” Hofman said. “For now, Textor is evaluating a possible contract.”

Fàbregas left French side AS Monaco at the end of the last season and any club wanting to hire the Spanish maestro would not have to think about any fee other than his salary. Representing Monaco, he played 68 matches, scored four goals and provided nine assists.

Despite the fact Fàbregas is beloved by Monaco fans, the midfielder’s 2021-2022 season was largely viewed as catastrophic. The player missed  38 matches due to a variety of injuries and played just six matches for Monaco last year, without scoring a goal and providing one assist defending Monaco’s B team last April.

Even though the player’s season didn’t go the way he expected, it’s undeniable he has an extraordinary resume  and his signing would bring a huge boost to Botafogo’s locker room.

Fàbregas is already considered one of the best midfielders in the world and was one of the faces of Spain’s victorious team in the 2010 World Cup. In addition to his excellent run on the national team, the midfielder also made history by being one of the midfielders in FC Barcelona from 2011 to 2014, when the Catalonian club won every single major trophy of the year.

Additionally, the Spaniard  is also considered a legend in English football. Playing for Arsenal FC, Fàbregas won both the FA Cup and Community Shield between 2004 and 2005. Representing Chelsea, the midfielder won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Europa League in 2019.
