Browns Re-Sign Jadeveon Clowney

BROWNS RE-SIGN CLOWNEY TO ONE-YEAR, $11MILLION DEAL

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms with three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, keeping him in Cleveland for the 2022 NFL season. News broke on Sunday that the 2014 no.1 overall pick had agreed to a one-year $11million deal with the AFC North franchise.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Clowney and the Browns actually agreed to terms on May 18th but had to finalize a few things before the deal became official. The deal could be more complicated than it appears but it is essentially worth $11million a year. Clowney wanted to be back in Cleveland and reportedly turned down $14million to $15million-a-year offers from other teams on multi-year deals to go back. Clowney signed with the Browns in April last year on a one-year deal worth up to $10million, which included $750,000 in sack bonuses.

The 29-year-old former Houston Texan spoke of how he had enjoyed his time playing in Cleveland towards the end of the 2021 season and All-Pro pass rusher Myles Garrett had promised to recruit him to stay. It seems like the 2017 no.1 overall pick did a good job as Clowney signed four months before the season starts in September.

Clowney posted 37 tackles (11 for loss), 2 forced fumbles, and 9 sacks in 14 games last year as he complimented Myles Garrett on the Browns’ defensive line. Clowney will also provide veteran experience and leadership and the Browns will hope he can set the bar for their defensive line draft picks Alex Wright, Perrion Winfrey, and Isaiah Thomas.

The Browns open their season with a trip to Carolina, playing the Panthers at the Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, 11th of September at 1 pm EDT.
