Condit Calls it Quits

One of MMA’s most recognizable names has called it a career. Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit will be retiring from the sport after a 19 year journey as a professional fighter. The 37 year old was a former UFC interim welterweight champion, and had memorable fights against the likes of Nick Diaz, Georges St-Pierre, and Robbie Lawler.

Outside of the UFC, Condit was the WEC welterweight champion, with an undefeated 5-0 record. He managed three successful title defenses against John Alessio, Brock Larson, and Carlo Prater between 2007 and 2008 before making his UFC debut April 1st 2009 against Martin Kampmann.

Known for his action packed fights, Condit was a crowd favourite, always trying to push for a finish as opposed to leaving it in the hands of the judges. Having lost his last fight in July to Max Griffin via unanimous decision, the native of Albuquerque New Mexico retires with a professional record of 32-14.

Of his 32 wins, 15 came via knockout, 13 came by submission, and only 4 required the judges to render a verdict. Condit is married and has an 11 year old son, while also owning a coffee shop and a denim line in partnership with Los Angeles denim brand Sene.

Whether Carlos follows the trend of former MMA fighters seeking bigger paydays inside the boxing ring remains to be seen. Condit does have one professional boxing match on his record, a split decision loss to Donnel Wade in 2004.
