Evidently the bad blood between UFC Welterweights Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington didn’t dissipate in the aftermath of their UFC 272 fight.
According to a Miami Beach police report, Covington and Masvidal were allegedly involved in an altercation outside of Papi Steak, a popular Miami restaurant. As a result, Masvidal is now suspected of felony battery from the incident on Monday night.
TMZ posted a video to their website today with footage of Covington explaining “He’s over here swinging, trying to come at me, and I ran. How would he know I’m here?” In the aftermath Tuesday, the 37 year old Masvidal tagged Covington in a tweet:
He would then later post “Good morning to everyone except those that think talking about someone’s kids is cool” to his twitter account. The remark allegedly echoes what the attacker in Monday night’s incident said to an onlooker following the assault.
According to reports, the victim, who chose not to be identified under Marsy’s Law, suffered a fractured tooth, a swollen eye, and a scraped left wrist.
The two fighters famously were once close friends before falling out following a disagreement in their fight camp. Both Masvidal and Covington lobbed more than a few verbal grenades at one another in the leadup to their grudge match on March 5th. Covington, 34, would ultimately go on to win the fight inside the octagon by unanimous decision.
It remains to be seen whether the victim will press charges, and what kind of punishment may come from the UFC itself if Masvidal is indeed determined to be the assailant.
