Golden State Warriors Sign Brandin Podziemski To 5 Year Extension

The Golden State Warriors and guard Brandin Podziemski have come to terms on a new 5 year, $110M contract extension on Saturday the club announced. The deal will avoid Podziemski becoming a restricted free agent next summer, and includes a mutual option for the 2031-32 season.

The 23 year old is preparing to enter his 4th season as a pro after being selected 19th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. Podziemski appeared in all 82 games for the Warriors last season, averaging career highs in points per game (13.8), field goal percentage (45.5%) and free throw percentage (79.7%). He also equalled his career bests in steals, assists, and blocks as well.

The left handed guard is set to earn $5.9M in the final year of his rookie deal this season, before seeing that figure spike to $18.9M when his extension kicks in next year. The deal will also feature a trade kicker, though details surrounding that component of the new pact remain unclear.

With Golden State preparing to begin the season without the services of Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody who continue to rehab their respective knee injuries, and Kristaps Porzingis’ future murky as ever with his health issues, the Warriors focused on ensuring they locked up a key piece of their rotation for the foreseeable future at a manageable cap figure. Podziemski is one of only a handful of young players on an otherwise veteran heavy lineup.

The former first rounder figures to begin the season as the team’s starting shooting guard, slotting in next to franchise icon Stephen Curry.

Golden State will now turn their attention to Saturday night’s preseason game against the Sacramento Kings. The team will then take on the Lakers and Trail Blazers, before kicking off their 2026-27 regular season on the road against the Lakers on Wednesday, October 21st.
