Ottawa Senators netminder Linus Ullmark suffered an undisclosed injury against his former team after a collision in the second period of his team’s 4-1 victory on Monday night.
Ullmark had turned aside all 15 shots he faced up until a collision with Bruins forward J.J. Peterka with 4:25 remaining in the second period. With Ottawa up 4-0 at that point, the team opted to send out Samuel Ersson to finish off the 3rd period after the Swedish goaltender reported discomfort during intermission.
According to head coach Travis Green, the move was precautionary more than anything, but declined to provide any kind of specifics following the contest. “Precautionary,” Green said. “We just felt it was best that we bring him out.”
The Senators are labelling the injury a “tweak” which is about as vague a description as they come. Despite not wanting to put a timetable on the matter, fans will likely get some insight into how severe the ailment is tonight when the team rolls into Detroit for a 7pm ET showdown.
Ersson is the presumptive starter for the 2-0 club, though that has yet to be officially confirmed. Whether Ullmark is available for back up duties or the club recalls a player from Belleville should yield some insights into how long their starter will be sidelined for.
In what was considered a down year by his lofty standards, the 33 year old went 28-12-8 with an .891 SV% and 2.73 GAA for Ottawa in 2025-26. Ullmark has been brilliant to start the new NHL campaign with a 1.20 GAA and .949 SV% across two starts to date.
