In what’s been a career year for the veteran guard, Kelsey Mitchell added the cherry on top of her 2026 WNBA season by setting the single season league scoring record in her team’s 103-85 victory.
Mitchell dropped 33 points alongside 2 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals in a lopsided win over the Tempo on Friday. A three pointer in the 3rd quarter was the official record breaking basket, surpassing the previous record of 1,021 points held by A’ja Wilson. Wilson’s feat came in 38 games during the 2024 season, while Mitchell will have appeared in 41 contests this year with 3 games remaining on the schedule.
“I don’t think people realize what she’s done this year and how insane it’s been,” teammate Caitlin Clark said about Mitchell. “It’s probably not talked about enough, especially in my opinion.”
“She’s playing at another level, and it’s been really incredible to witness,” head coach Stephanie White said told reporters. “I hope that we don’t take it for granted that what we’re witnessing is some unprecedented stuff.”
The win also extended Mitchell’s ongoing streak of consecutive games where she’s scored at least 20 points, with that record now sitting at 25 straight contests. The ninth-year guard shot 12 of 17 from the field and 7 of 11 from beyond the arc which also pushed her past Clark’s franchise record for most three-pointers in a single season.
For the year Mitchell is now averaging 25.2 points per game which is good for second in the league behind Wilson’s 26.1 points per night.
The victory moves Indiana to 27-14 which is good for a tie for 4th place with Atlanta. Unfortunately the Fever will have a tough slate of games on the horizon, matching up against the Mystics (25-16), followed by a home and home with the Lynx (31-10). Meanwhile Atlanta will finish out the season with a game vs. Chicago (15-26) and back to back games vs. New York (25-16).
With just three games to go, there are now 6 teams separated by 3 games or fewer in the playoff mix, meaning seeds 3 through 8 are anything but set at this point. Mitchell and her Fever teammates will have the day off on Saturday before a 4pm ET home game on Sunday vs. Washington.
