After spending much of the last year seeing his name linked to trade rumours, Robert Thomas has officially been named the 25th captain in St. Louis Blues franchise history.
Thomas was a point per game player for St. Louis last season, registering 25G and 39A across 64 contests. Now entering his 9th season after being selected by the Blues in the 1st round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Thomas will be counted on to help guide the team back to the playoffs after missing out in 2025-26.
Joining Thomas in the team’s leadership group are Colton Parayko, Philip Broberg, Jake Neighbours and Dylan Holloway who each be named assistant captains for the 2026-27 season.
Currently signed through the 2030-31 season at a deal that will see him earn $8.125M per season, the 27 year old has a full no trade clause baked into his contract. Despite that, Thomas’ name had been buoyed about as a potential trade target for a number of clubs leading up to last season’s deadline, though a deal never fully materialized.
This led some to believe that his days with the organization could be numbered. However, after a quiet summer on the trade front, St. Louis seems to be reaffirming their commitment to the native of Aurora, ON by giving him their captaincy heading into the new season.
The team is preparing to open their training camp on September 14th, before kicking off their preseason schedule on the 19th. St. Louis will then open up their 2026-27 season against the Dallas Stars on October 2nd.
