Keenan Allen Arrested On Suspicion of DUI

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Allen faces two misdemeanour charges after being arrested at approximately 1 AM, before being taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center. The 34 year old had just signed on with the Colts earlier this month on a 1 year deal.

“We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night,” the Colts said in a statement. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

The 6x Pro Bowl receiver posted 81 receptions for 777 yards and 4 TDs with the Chargers last season. He came over to the Colts in the offseason as a free agent addition, inking a 1 year, incentive laden deal which could be worth as much as $8.32M if all escalators are hit.

Saturday marked the first time that the former California Golden Bear was taking the field with his new teammates in game action. Allen was on the field for the team’s first drive of the night. The incident occurred a few hours after the Colts wrapped up their preseason game against the Detroit Lions, in which Allen caught his lone target on the day for 24 yards.

Recent history suggest that the NFL will likely wait until the full legal process plays out before issuing any kind of supplementary discipline. Commissioner Roger Goodell will review the matter and could impose a fine, or suspension at a later date for the 14 year veteran.

Indianapolis has wrapped up their preseason and will now turn their attention to their Week 1 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13th.
