Warriors Re-Sign Kristaps Porzingis On 2 Year Deal

The Golden State Warriors and centre Kristaps Porzingis have come to terms on a new 2 year, $40M contract to reunite the two sides in 2026-27.

Porzingis’ agent Jeff Schwartz confirmed that the 2nd year of the pact is a player option, giving the veteran big man the option to opt out if things don’t work out this season. The upcoming NBA campaign will be an interesting one for the Warriors, who have been linked to both LeBron James and Anthony Davis in recent weeks.

Draymond Green recently declined his $27.6M player option to give the team additional financial flexibility, though both sides are expected to reunite this offseason. If the club were to lean into the recently coined “Olden State” monicker and bring back Stephen Curry (38), Draymond Green (36), Al Horford (40), Jimmy Butler (36) and sign James (41), they’d be high on star power, while simultaneously fielding one of the oldest lineups in recent memory.

By comparison, Porzingis is practically a rookie coming in at the tender age of 30, but is coming off an injury plagued season which limited him to just 32 contests between Atlanta and Golden State. On the year he averaged 16.7pts per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest.

In a perfect world, the team views the 7’2″ big man as a floor spacing rim protector who they can pair alongside Green in the front court. That being said, Porzingis’ inability to stay on the court in recent years makes the situation a combustible one given the advanced age and shrinking window to compete for the rest of the Warriors lineup.

The Latvian centre dealt with a mysterious illness throughout 2025-26 which team doctors had difficulty diagnosing. That, coupled with a bout of Achilles tendinitis, caused him to miss 50 games last season. For his career, Porzingis has failed to reach the 72 game high he played as a rookie back in 2015-16 when he was a member of the New York Knicks.

Across his 10 year NBA career he’s had stops in New York, Dallas, Boston, Washington, Atlanta, and Golden State. Over 533 games he’s posted an average of 19.5pts/7.6reb/1.9ast/1.8blk per game.
