The Green Bay Packers and wide receiver Christian Watson have come to terms on a new 4 year, $110.5M contract extension the club announced on Thursday.
The deal will feature a $31M signing bonus, and will average out to roughly $27.6M per season. Green Bay now has its top two wideouts signed for the foreseeable future after inking WR Jayden Reed to a 3 year, $50.25M extension back in April.
The Packers figure to lean on Watson and Reed heavily in 2026 after Romeo Doubs departed via free agency, and Dontayvion Wicks was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. They, along with 2nd year wideout Matthew Golden, figure to eat up the majority of looks through the air for a revamped offence in Green Bay this year.
After suffering a torn ACL late in the 2024 season, Watson returned to post 35 receptions for 611 yards and 6 TDs in the final 10 games of the 2025 campaign. During those 10 games, Watson led the NFL with 17.5 yards per catch, showcasing his downfield playmaking skills.
When asked by the media this week about the new look pass catching group, quarterback Jordan Love said “We’ve still got a very deep receiver room…We’ve got Christian, we’ve got J. Reed, we’ve got M.G., guys who are all going to continue to keep building, keep taking those steps. Guys who have played a lot of ball with Christian and J. Reed, so we’ve still got a great room, and it’s just about getting back to work right now, building the foundation and setting ourselves up for when we get back to training camp.”
After posting a 9-7-1 record through the regular season, Green Bay would bow out of the playoffs in the NFC Wildcard round following a 31-27 loss to the Chicago Bears. Following the conclusion of the year, the Philadelphia Eagles hired Packers QB coach Sean Mannion to become their new offensive coordinator.
This in turn resulted in Green Bay bringing back Luke Getsy to replace Mannion as their new QB coach, taking over a role he previously held from 2019-2021. That change, coupled with the offseason departures of Doubs and Wicks figures to result in a new look offence for the Packers in 2026.
The club could be looking to get their wide receivers involved early and often this season as tight end Tucker Kraft eases his way back into the fold following a November ACL tear. Not to mention the current off-field legal drama involving bell cow running back Josh Jacobs.
Fans will get their first look at how the team operates when they take the field on August 13th against the Pittsburgh Steelers in preseason action. Games against the Broncos and Cardinals will round out the club’s preseason schedule before they officially begin their 2026 campaign on September 13th against the Minnesota Vikings.
