Seattle Seahawks Sign Dante Fowler Jr.

The Seattle Seahawks are preparing to sign veteran pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr. to a 1 year deal worth up to $5M if all incentives are hit.

Seattle, who lost Boye Mafe to free agency, were in search of another pass rusher heading into the 2026 NFL season. Despite having 8 selections in this year’s NFL Draft, the team chose to address other areas of need on their roster instead.

By waiting until after the draft was complete, Fowler’s signing will no longer count against the team’s compensatory picks calculations for 2027. The 31 year old will join a Seahawks defensive front that includes Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, Uchenna Nwosu, DeMarcus Lawrence and Derick Hall.

The veteran lineman has reached double digit sack totals multiple times throughout his NFL career, with his most recent instance coming in 2024 as a member of the Washington Commanders. Last season, Fowler started 11 of 17 games for the Dallas Cowboys totalling 3 sacks, 3 passes defended, 4 tackles for loss, and 10 QB hits.

His durability along with his familiarity with some of the Seahawks coaching staff are likely what led to a deal coming together quickly. Since 2021, Fowler has not missed an NFL game, and has previous worked with Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Aden Durde while he was a member of the Cowboys and Falcons.

Originally selected 3rd overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2015 NFL Draft, the 6’3″, 261lbs edge rusher has amassed 58.5 sacks and 15 forced fumbles over his 11 year career.
