Former Los Angeles Chargers safety Nasir Adderley, who retired from the NFL following the 2022 season at the age of 25, is coming out of retirement and joining the Indianapolis Colts. After spending 3 seasons away from football, Adderley will now compete for a roster spot with the Colts who are in need of additional depth in their secondary.
“Health, family, and entrepreneurship were my top priorities, and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish,” the now 28 year old said in a social media post. “The freedom to manage my own schedule was very important to me, but what I didn’t realize was how much I’d miss having football in my life. The competition, the brotherhood, and just being involved in the game that means so much to me and my family. Therefore, I am officially announcing my intention to return to the NFL.”
A former 2nd round pick of the Chargers, Adderley started 44 games for the Bolts, recording 227 tackles, and 3 interceptions in the process. He now becomes the third safety the Colts have signed in free agency this year, joining Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas.
Indianapolis lost safeties Nick Cross and Rodney Thomas II in free agency, making an already thin secondary, that much more depleted. Adderley has managed to avoid major injuries throughout his career, which will hopefully make his comeback attempt a seamless process.
The Colts hold 7 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, but will need to wait until the 2nd round (47th overall) to make their first selection after dealing their 2026 first to the Jets in the Sauce Gardner trade.
