Mohamed Salah To Leave Liverpool At End Of Season

After 9 years with Liverpool FC, forward Mohamed Salah will part ways with the club at the end of the 2025-26 season the team announced Tuesday.

“Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season,” Liverpool said in a statement.

“The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield. Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.”

Despite having signed a two year contract extension last April, the 33 year old will be in search of a new home for the 2026-27 campaign. While both sides have kept the news cordial in the hours since Liverpool made the announcement, one can easily trace the abrupt break up back to Salah’s clashes with manager Arne Slot as at least a partial factor in the split.

After sitting out three consecutive matches, Salah told reporters he felt like he was being “thrown under the bus” as a scapegoat for the team’s recent slide. However he would be worked back into the lineup following the Africa Cup of Nations in January, leading some to believe that whatever rift existed between the star player and manager had been smoothed over.

Evidently that was not the case as the winger will now close the book on his near decade long relationship with the Reds.

“Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come,” Salah said on his social media accounts. “This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”

“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not of this club.”

“We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life. I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates past and present.”

“And to the fans, I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career, and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.”

“Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family.”

“Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”

Liverpool is off until Saturday, April 4th when they’ll take on Manchester City in the FA Cup Finals. From there, depending on the team’s on field results, Salah will have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10+ games left in his LFC career.
