Kansas City Chiefs Sign RB Kenneth Walker

The Kansas City Chiefs and running back Kenneth Walker III have reportedly come to terms on a deal following the opening of the NFL negotiation window on Monday.

While the deal cannot officially be completed until 4pm on March 11th, Adam Schefter is reporting that the deal is done to add the Super Bowl MVP to the Chiefs backfield. Walker totalled 1,309 total scrimmage yards and averaged 4.6 yards per carry during the regular season while splitting touches with Zach Charbonnet in Seattle.

Both of Kansas City’s top running backs are scheduled to become free agents this offseason, paving the way for Walker to assume RB1 duties at Arrowhead. Both Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco are slated to test free agency following a season in which the Chiefs ranked 25th in the league in rushing.

According to Ian Rapoport, Walker’s deal will be worth up to $45M with a base salary of $14.35M per season, and $28.7M in guaranteed money.

It’s the second bit of good news for Chiefs fans on Monday as it was also announced that star tight end Travis Kelce plans to return to the club for 2026 after contemplating retirement during the offseason. The 36 year old recorded 76 catches for 851 yards and 5 TDs for Kansas City during the 2025 NFL campaign.
