Phillies Sign Jesus Luzardo To 5 Year Extension

The Philadelphia Phillies and pitcher Jesus Luzardo have come to terms on a new 5 year, $135M extension the club announced Monday.

The deal will keep Luzardo in a Phillies uniform through the 2031 MLB campaign after starring from the team following a trade from Miami prior to the start of 2025. Across 7 Major League seasons, the left hander has compiled a 4.19 ERA with 775 Ks across 695.2 IP.

Originally drafted in the 3rd round out of Stoneman Douglas HS in south Florida back in 2016, the now 28 year old has spent time with Washington, Oakland, and Miami prior to being acquired by Dave Dombrowski & Co. Luzardo’s new pact avoids him becoming a free agent at season’s end.

Only Framber Valdez, Blake Snell, Garrett Crochet and Max Fried will earn more than the Peruvian hurler amongst left handed pitchers.

In his first season with Philadelphia, he recorded 216 strikeouts in just 183.2 IP, to go along with a 15-7 record and a 3.92 ERA. Only San Francisco’s Logan Webb recorded more strikeouts in the National League throughout 2025. As a result, the southpaw finished 7th in NL Cy Young voting thanks to a 97mph fastball and a devastating slider.

With Cristopher Sanchez, and Zack Wheeler atop the rotation, Luzardo figures to open the season as Philadelphia’s 3rd starter, giving the Phillies a trio of strikeout artists to deploy.

Philadelphia will continue their Spring Training schedule on Tuesday with a 1:05pm ET matchup with the New York Yankees.
