Red Sox Acquire Caleb Durbin From Brewers

With pitchers and catchers set to report this week, the Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers have completed a last minute, 6 player trade ahead of the 2026 MLB campaign.

Boston will acquire infielders Caleb Durbin, and Andruw Monasterio, as well as Anthony Seigler and a competitive balance pick (67th overall). Milwaukee is set to receive LHP Kyle Harrison, David Hamilton, and LHP Shane Drohan.

Durbin figures to fill the hole along the left side of Boston’s infield following Alex Bregman’s departure this offseason. The 25 year old finished 3rd in NL rookie of the year voting in 2025, hitting .256 with 11 home runs, 60 runs scored and 53 RBIs. Durbin was originally part of the New York Yankees system before being acquired as part of the Devin Williams trade.

Rumours linking the Red Sox to Astros infielder Isaac Paredes had been swirling for much of the winter. However, a deal never fully materialized, leading to Craig Breslow & Sam Kennedy pivoting to a Durbin centred trade.

The deal essentially solves problems for both teams as Milwaukee had an abundance of infielders, but needed additional pitching depth, while Boston was flush with pitchers, but had a hole in their infield.

With prospects Cooper Pratt, Jesus Made, and Luis Pena all knocking on the door to a Major League roster spot, the Brewers were flush with infielders and could afford to swing a deal from a position of strength. The 24 year old Harrison was once considered one of the top pitching prospects on the planet, but has dealt with injuries and inconsistency in his Major League career thus far.

Nevertheless, he features a 9-9 record, with a. 4.39 ERA and 191 Ks across 194.2IP since making his MLB debut back in 2023. With Milwaukee’s rotation currently in flux, they could easily afford to roll the dice on Harrison in the hopes that he regains his previous form.

Harrison will compete for a spot in the Brewers rotation this spring alongside Brandon Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski, Quinn Priester, Chad Patrick, Logan Henderson, Robert Gasser and Brandon Sproat.

By moving Harrison, who pitched 12 innings for Boston in 2025, the Red Sox have now virtually cleared out all remaining links to the Rafael Devers trade. Only RHP Jose Bello who is currently in Class A, remains from the mega deal that sent Devers to the San Francisco Giants in 2025.

Milwaukee is scheduled to host their first team workouts on Thursday, February 12th in the Cactus League, while Boston’s pitchers and catchers will report on Tuesday February 10th ahead of the team’s Grapefruit League debut.
