According to reports, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones has a fractured fibula, but will attempt to play through the injury for the duration of the season.
While the team has confirmed that Jones has a lower body injury, they’ve stopped short of declaring that there is any kind of fracture present. Nevertheless, the NFL Network has confirmed that multiple “insiders” have verified the claims that the veteran signal caller does indeed have a fracture.
Thursday’s practice report lists Jones’ involvement as “limited”, though the 28 year old has downplayed the severity of the situation. “Just been trying to get treatment and make sure I’m in the best spot I can be,” Jones told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m all good. I’ll be ready to go on Sunday. Obviously, I was out there last week. I’m good to go.”
Indianapolis currently has the highest scoring offence in the NFL this season, averaging 31 points per game, and sitting atop the yards per play list as well (6.3). That could all come crashing down if Jones were to miss significant time, as the team is already without back up Anthony Richardson who remains on injured reserve with an orbital fracture. That would leave rookie Riley Leonard as the lone healthy body in the quarterback room.
With a date against Houston’s stingy defence on the docket this weekend, Indy could look to lean heavily on all-world running back Jonathan Taylor in an effort to minimize the burden placed on Jones. Houston is currently averaging a league best 264.3 yards allowed per game against opponents heading into the American Thanksgiving holiday.
