Braves Acquire Mauricio Dubon From Houston

The Atlanta Braves have acquired 2x Gold Glove winning infielder Mauricio Dubon from the Houston Astros in exchange for 27 year old Nick Allen.

Dubon earned the second of his two Gold Glove awards this past season after playing a super utility role for the Astros. The 31 year old hit .241 across 369 at bats for Houston in 2025, driving in 33 runs, and scoring 43 himself.

The veteran infielder is arbitration eligible this season, and is coming off a year which saw Houston pay him $5M. He can become a free agent following the 2026 MLB campaign.

“I told him I don’t know what your role is going to be yet, but the fact that we have the flexibility to play him all over … he’s just a good piece,” Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos said of his recent acquisition. With Atlanta expected to be amongst the more aggressive teams in free agency this winter, where Dubon ultimately slots in will be highly dependent on what other moves the Braves pull off prior to spring training.

“His role will be determined by what else we do this winter and even in Spring Training,” Anthopoulos said. “I told him the same thing. I have no idea what the roster is going to look like come Spring Training. But knowing he has the flexibility and athleticism to play every position, it just gives us so many options this winter.”

Atlanta, who committed the second fewest errors as a team in 2025 with 54, will now add a defensive jack-of-all-trades to their lineup as they hope to return to the postseason following a down year. Dubon tied for MLB’s sixth-highest fielding run value(+17) despite making just 104 starts on defence in 2025. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that he also had a FRV of +6 at shortstop, despite making just 33 appearances at the position.

Heading back the other way is 5’8″ infielder Nick Allen, who hit .221 with 32 runs scored, and 22 RBIs across 371 at bats last season. The right handed bat is arbitration eligible for the first time this offseason, and remains under team control through 2029.

In a separate move, Atlanta also announced the re-signing of closer Raisel Iglesias to a 1 year, $16M contract extension.
