The Edmonton Elks are adding NFL veteran Carter O’Donnell to their roster in an effort bolster their offensive line the club announced Tuesday.
O’Donnell is a former University of Alberta standout, who has spent the last 5 years in the NFL ranks. The 6’5″, 305lbs lineman split time between the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals before returning to his home province this week.
“Carter O’Donnell is a significant addition to our offensive line. His toughness, physicality, and relentless style of play are exactly what we seek in the trenches,” Elks vice president of football operations and general manager Ed Hervey said via press release.
“Carter isn’t just here to compete, he’s here to push for a starting role and make an immediate impact on our roster.”
Originally selected by the Montreal Alouettes 22nd overall back in 2020, O’Donnell’s rights were acquired by Edmonton in 2022 for a 1st round pick swap. His positional versatility will be a bonus for the Elks as he’s split time between both guard and tackle at the professional level.
The Elks currently find themselves in last place in the CFL’s West Division at 4-7. However, with both Winnipeg and BC also struggling with consistency issues, the playoffs are still very much in play for the Green and Gold.
Edmonton is next in action on Saturday, September 6th in the battle of Alberta as the Calgary Stampeders come to town for a 7pm ET showdown.
