Mammoth Prospect Caleb Desnoyers Out 12 Weeks

Utah Mammoth prospect Caleb Desnoyers will miss the next 12 weeks of action after undergoing wrist surgery the team announced Thursday.

Desnoyers was selected 4th overall by the Mammoth in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft following a strong junior career in which he tallied 84 points across 56 games for the Moncton Wildcats. Moncton would go on to win the QMJHL championship following a dominant 53-9-2 regular season. He would go on to tally 30 points across 19 playoff games to earn the Guy Lafleur trophy as the league’s playoff MVP.

Those numbers are made all the more impressive given the fact that Desnoyers was hampered by wrist issues for most of the 2024-25 campaign.

“Pretty much anything you can imagine you need your hands for hockey was affected by [the wrist injuries],” Desnoyers said during the NHL Scouting Combine in June. “Lucky enough I have a good staff, good facilities, and my therapist in Moncton is excellent. So I just did a lot of treatments to help me get through it and give it 100 percent every night.”

Moncton named Desnoyers team captain in June, however the 18 year old has yet to announce whether he plans to return to the CHL or follow in the footsteps of other high profile Canadian players and make the jump to the NCAA ranks.

Given his current rehab timeline, it’s unlikely Desnoyers is back up to speed until at least mid-October. In terms of what Mammoth fans can expect out of the two-way forward, Dobber Prospects scout Luke Sweeney described him as the following: “While not always a high-pace player, Desnoyers has poise, excellent vision, and a solid puckhandle in tight spaces. He’s a committed and typically responsible defensive player who is especially effective when he flashes the higher-level physicality he can often bring.”

The Mammoth will kick off their preseason on September 22nd against the Anaheim Ducks.
