Las Vegas Aces star, and reigning league MVP, A’ja Wilson became the first player in WNBA history to record a 30-point, 20-rebound double-double, powering her team to a 94–86 victory over the Connecticut Sun.
Wilson’s final stat line — 32 points on 13-of-25 shooting and 20 rebounds — marked the second 20-rebound performance of her career and her 14th double-double of the season. It was also her sixth career game with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds, tying Tina Charles for the most such games in league history.
Aces head coach Becky Hammon told reporters that the performance was both historic and quintessentially Wilson.
“It’s just A’ja being A’ja,” Hammon said, shaking her head in awe. “She probably could have had one of these in the past. I never let her really go to the offensive glass this year, but we’ve been emphasizing that more — and she delivered.”
Wilson’s record-setting night also came with another milestone — her 30th career 30-point game, further solidifying her position as one of the league’s most dominant and consistent scorers.
“It’s huge,” Wilson said postgame. “As many greats as we have in this league, it’s kind of a shocker that this is just now happening. It’s a blessing. I love what I do. I love it so much. Anytime I can come out and play the game I love, get my teammates involved, and we win — I’m happy.”
The 29 year old’s teammates were quick to recognize the significance of the achievement. Jackie Young praised Wilson’s relentless work ethic and ability to produce despite constant defensive pressure.
“Every night she shows up, and that’s why she’s so great,” Young said. “She’s a super hard worker, and it’s cool to see that pay off. Even with double and triple teams, she finds a way to put up insane numbers.”
Wilson’s dominance from last season has carried over to 2025 despite an uneven start to the year for the Aces. She recently became the fastest player to reach 5,000 career points and leads the league in 30-point games since her debut in 2018.
“It’s pretty cool to have my name in the record books,” said Wilson, who celebrated her 29th birthday just two days earlier. “I’m sure there will be more to come, but being the first to do something like this — that’s special.”
With the win, the Aces move to 18-14 on the season, and occupy the 6th spot overall in the standings. The team will now have two days off before hosting the New York Liberty on Wednesday, August 13th in a 9:30pm ET showdown.
