According to reports, Premier League side Arsenal have completed a deal to acquire Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano is reporting that verbal agreements are in place between all parties involved after Gyökeres’ agent agreed to reduce his commission. Sources indicate that Sporting will net €63.5m plus €10m as part of the deal, with the Swedish striker preparing to sign on for the next 5 years with the gunners.
After leaving Coventry City in July of 2023, the 27 year old helped Sporting CP capture back to back league titles in Portugal. Gyökeres has averaged better than a goal per game (68 goals across 65 contests), with the advanced numbers to support his offensive prowess as well (54.6% avg shot accuracy, including blocked attempts, 61% big chance conversion rate and a +14.4 Expected Goals over-performance).
The 6’2″ forward is a well rounded player who can impact the game both inside and outside of the box, especially on the left side. With the acquisition of Gyökeres, that likely puts an end to the club’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, who Arsenal’s front office had been doing their due diligence on as well.
The deal will be pending the successful completion of a medical evaluation, but both sides are expected to make the signing official in the coming days.
