Dallas Re-Signs Jamie Benn

The Dallas Stars have re-signed captain Jamie Benn to a 1 year, incentive heavy contract which will see him earn a $1M base salary, with up to $3M more in incentives.

Benn will receive $500,000 for playing in 20, 30, 50 and 60 games during the 2025-26 season, an additional $500,000 if the Stars win the Western Conference finals and $500,000 more if Dallas captures the Stanley Cup.

The soon to be 36 year old registered 49 points (16G, 33A) across 80 games played in 2024-25. Benn has missed only 2 games over the last 4 years, making $2M of his potential $3M in bonuses a realistic goal to achieve next season.

“Jamie embodies everything it means to be a Dallas Star, and has since he was drafted 18 years ago,” said Stars GM Jim Nill. “There was never a doubt that Jamie would return next season, and we are thrilled for both our organization and our fans that he will continue to lead our team in our pursuit of winning a championship.”

Originally selected in the 5th round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, the longtime Stars captain has spent the entirety of his career with Dallas, amassing 956 points (399G, 557A) across 1,192 regular-season games. He took home the Art Ross Trophy as the League’s leading scorer in 2014-15, and has represented Canada internationally on numerous occasions.

News of Benn’s new deal comes a week after the club locked up pending free agent forward Matt Duchene to a new 4 year, $18M contract extension. The Stars front office has had a busy week as the club has also signed Kole Lind, Mavrik Bourque, and Cameron Hughes to new contracts.

The team also added to their draft capital, acquiring a 2026 3rd round pick, and a 2025 4th round pick in a trade with the Seattle Kraken. And to cap things off, the club also announced a two-year extension with their ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.

With all that business taken care of, the club will now turn their attention to the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, which kicks off on Friday, June 27th at 7pm ET.
