De’Aaron Fox Requires Season Ending Surgery

San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox will undergo season ending surgery to address tendon damage in his left pinkie finger the team announced this week.

Fox is believed to have suffered the injury during training camp with the Sacramento Kings earlier this season, but has played through the ailment since. By undergoing the surgery now, the Spurs expect Fox to be fully healthy for the start of the 2025-26 NBA campaign.

Across 62 games for the Spurs and Kings this year, Fox has averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds. He also set the Kings franchise record for points in a single game by scoring 60 on November 15th against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Already without superstar Victor Wembanyama, and coach Gregg Popovich, what began as a season full of promise for San Antonio has quickly turned into another lost year. Currently sitting at 27-37 on the year, the Spurs occupy the 12th spot in the Western Conference.

While it’s unlikely that they’d be able to bottom out badly enough to catch the true bottom feeders of the league in Charlotte (16-49) and Washington (14-51), they could improve their draft stock with a less than stellar finish to this yea’s campaign. Teams such as Portland, Chicago, and Toronto could potentially squeeze past them in the draft lottery standings, improving their odds at a top 5 pick.

San Antonio is next in action on Friday night against the Charlotte Hornets in an 8pm ET showdown.
