Steelers Land Darius Slay On 1 Year Deal

Steelers Land Darius Slay On 1 Year Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in veteran CB Darius Slay on a 1 year deal following his release from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The deal is a 1 year contract worth $10M which will be fully guaranteed. The 6x Pro Bowler had 49 combined tackles and 13 passes defended in 14 games for the Eagles in 2024. Over the course of his 12-year NFL career, Slay has posted 28 interceptions and 160 passes defended across 177 regular season games between the Eagles and Detroit Lions.

At 34 years old Slay is no longer playing at an All-Pro level, but still has plenty to offer to Pittsburgh’s secondary. Slay will replace free agent Donte Jackson in Pittsburgh’s starting lineup alongside Joey Porter Jr. Jackson previously agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this week.

Slay has previously praised Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin on his podcast, saying that he’d enjoy playing for him one day. That, coupled with the fact that he’s entering the twilight of his career, and likely wants to put down roots with his family, would have played a factor in his decision to stay in state.

The former 2nd round pick out of Mississippi State will be relied upon to help lend some stability to a pass defence which ranked 25th in the league in 2024.
