Commanders Cosmi Suffers Torn ACL

The Washington Commanders knocked off the NFC’s number 1 seed in Detroit this weekend, but will now be without starting right guard Sam Cosmi for the remainder of the playoffs after the veteran lineman suffered a torn ACL.

After being forced out of the game Saturday, Cosmi could be seen sporting a large brace on the sidelines at Ford Field. He appears to have suffered the injury on running back Brian Robinson Jr.’s 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. 7 year NFL veteran Trent Scott replaced Cosmi after he was ruled out and is expected to start in his place against Philadelphia next weekend.

“Really bummed on Sam,” head coach Dan Quinn said after the game. “That’s a big loss for us…That’s a big deal, the ballplayer and the man.”

Originally selected in the second round, 51st overall by Washington back in 2021, the 25 year old has been a major reason why the Commanders were able to show such improvement this season. He, along with the rest of the offensive line, has taken major strides forward in front of rookie QB Jayden Daniels.

Washington’s offensive line ranked 25th in PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating in 2023 and finished eighth in 2024 with an 86.8 rating. The unit ended up allowing 155 pressures — including 18 sacks —  on 654 snaps.

PFF would go on to rate Cosmi as Washington’s best offensive lineman for the 2024 campaign. His 74.3 PFF pass-blocking grade ranked 14th among guards in the NFL this season.

Washington will travel to Philadelphia for the NFC Championship game next Sunday for the team’s third meeting of the season.
