Blue Jays Sign Reliever Yimi Garcia To 2 Year Deal

According to multiple reports, the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with free agent RP Yimi Garcia on a 2 year, $15M contract.

Garcia was a member of the 2024 Blue Jays roster before eventually being traded to Seattle Mariners at the MLB trade deadline in exchange for Jonatan Clase and Jacob Sharp. The 34 year old sports a career 22-29 record with a 3.59 ERA and 26 career saves across 398.1 IP.

Garcia ultimately only tossed 9 innings worth of ball for the Mariners before being sidelined due to inflammation in his throwing elbow. However, given the Blue Jays familiarity with the righty, and their desperate need to reshape their bullpen, the club felt comfortable bringing him back on a multi-year deal.

Toronto’s bullpen ERA was 4.82 in 2024, which was the second worst mark in all of Major League Baseball. After watching Jordan Romano sign with the Phillies following the club’s decision to non-tender him, Garcia joins Chad Green and Erik Swanson in a fairly depleted late inning mix for the Blue Birds.
