Connor McDavid Out 2-3 Weeks With Ankle Injury

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid will miss the next 2-3 weeks with an ankle injury the club confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

While any game played without the number 1 player in the world is less than ideal, Oilers fans can exhale after fearing that the injury could be long term. McDavid left Edmonton’s game vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday after being tripped by Zach Werenski and crashing awkwardly into the boards.

The 27 year old was able to get off the ice under his own power but was quickly ruled out of the contest. McDavid flew back to Edmonton for further evaluations leading to speculation that there could be more extensive damage than initially feared. Luckily, it would appear as though the Oilers’ captain escaped major injury.

It’s an absence the Oilers can ill afford at the moment. Once again, Edmonton has stumbled out of the gates, posting a 4-5-1 record to start the season. Despite the sluggish start, McDavid has recorded 10 points (3G, 7A) during that span to lead the team in points.

Edmonton is next in action Thursday against the Nashville Predators before heading to Calgary for another instalment of the Battle of Alberta.

While a definitive timeline has yet to be established for McDavid’s return, November 21st could be a potential date to keep an eye on as the club will return home for a clash against the Minnesota Wild following and Eastern Canada road trip.
