The Baltimore Ravens may have the NFL’s number 1 offence, but that doesn’t mean that they’re content to rest on their laurels.
The club announced Tuesday that they had acquired veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson and a 6th round pick from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 5th round selection. The deal is currently pending a physical.
Johnson spent the first 5 seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being selected 66th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Toledo. The veteran wide receiver is a former Pro Bowler who can stretch the field and offer a reliable pass catching option beyond Zay Flowers for the Ravens.
Pittsburgh traded the wideout to Carolina in exchange for CB Donte Jackson and the 178th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Carolina thought that by injecting a veteran WR to their mix, that they could jumpstart their offence under Bryce Young. That plan however hasn’t panned out, as Carolina sits dead last in the NFL with a 1-7 record through 8 weeks of play.
With Johnson out of the picture, Carolina’s receivers room now consists of Adam Thielen, Xavier Legette, Jonathan Mingo, David Moore and undrafted rookie Jalen Coker.
Baltimore is next in action Sunday at 1pm ET as they play host to the visiting Denver Broncos.
