Fallout From Bama’s Loss

The Alabama Crimson Tide hadn’t lost since the 2019 Iron Bowl. Nick Saban’s former assistant coaches had never beaten him. None of that mattered Saturday night as Texas A&M shocked the college football world by upending the number one ranked team in the nation 41-38.

Coming off back to back losses to Arkansas and Mississippi St., the Aggies looked to be easy picking for the dominant Crimson Tide. But a quick start saw the home side up 24-10 at halftime. Though Alabama would battle back to take the lead, a last second field goal would send College Station into a frenzy.

The loss saw Alabama fall to number 5 in the latest AP polls. Ahead of them, Georgia now lays claim to the number 1 spot in the country, followed by Iowa, Cincinnati, and Oklahoma. With the victory Texas A&M (4-2) rocketed all the way up to number 21 after being previously unranked.

Alabama hadn’t lost to an unranked opponent since 2007 (Nick Saban’s first year as head coach). Entering the game as -17.5pt favourites, the loss also snapped Alabama’s 100 game unbeaten streak against unranked foes. The Crimson Tide now sport an 11-3 record all time against Texas A&M. The Aggies victory is their first since 2012 when they defeated Alabama 29-24 with Johnny Manziel as their quarterback.

Texas A&M takes on Missouri next week, while Alabama will face Mississippi State on Saturday.
