Jon Gruden is out as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders following the release of emails showing the use of racist, misogynistic and anti-gay language over a period of several years from a purported personal email account of his. According to multiple reports, team owner Mark Davis met with Gruden personally today to inform him he will no longer be coaching the team effective immediately.
In addition to the already leaked emails from 2010 which included racist language, TMZ is also reporting that “Gruden also reportedly wrote Goodell should not have pressured former NFL coach, Jeff Fisher, to draft “queers” in 2014 … referencing Michael Sam, the first openly gay player drafted into the NFL.”
Optics aside, the Las Vegas locker room happens to include the first openly gay player who is currently active in the NFL, defensive lineman Carl Nassib. NFL.com is currently reporting that Gruden has resigned from his position as head coach of the team. After starting out 3-0 this year, the Raiders have dropped their last two games to sit at 3-2 in the 2021 season. Gruden is currently in the 4th year of a 10 year $100M deal to coach the Raiders.
This is a developing story.
