The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Leon Draisaitl to a new 8 year, $112M contract extension the club announced on Tuesday. His new deal will feature an AAV of $14M per season and will kick in beginning next year.
Draisaitl, who was originally selected 3rd overall by Edmonton in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, recently completed his 10th season in an Oilers uniform. The 28 year old tallied 41 goals and 65 assists across 81 regular season contests, while adding another 31 points (10G, 21A) across 25 playoff games.
“This is an historic day for the Edmonton Oilers,” said Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Stan Bowman. “Leon’s commitment to our team, our city and Oilers fans everywhere cannot be overstated. His desire to help bring a Stanley Cup title home to Edmonton is central to everything he does both on and off the ice.”
Over the course of his 719 game NHL career, the German forward has amassed 850 points (347G, 503A) which is good for a 1.18 points per game pace.
Oilers GM Stan Bowman will address the media later today.
