Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have come to terms on a 1 year, $62.6M extension on Thursday according to the latest reports.
Curry will now be linked to the Warriors through the 2026-27 NBA campaign according to his agent Jeff Austin from the Octagon group.
Fresh off a gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 36 year old guard will now turn his attention to the 2024-25 season, with his future now secure. Originally drafted 7th overall back in 2009 by Golden State, Curry has spent his entire professional career with the Warriors organization.
Barring injury, the 4x NBA champion will hit a significant milestone this year, as he sits 44 games shy of the 1,000 games played mark. Across 956 NBA contests, the 6’2″ guard has averaged 24.8pts/4.7reb/6.4ast per game, while shooting 42.6% from beyond the 3pt line.
During that span, Curry has amassed 10 All-Star appearances, 2 MVPs, and 2 scoring titles to go along with his team success as well.
The veteran guard had two years remaining on his current deal, but was eligible to sign a 1 year extension this offseason. Per CBA regulations, because he will be over 38 when his current deal expires, 1 year was the maximum term that Golden State could tack on to the end of his contract.
The Warriors will have a new look to their rotation this season, as longtime franchise pillar, Klay Thompson, joined the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. The club also waived guard Chris Paul, and brought in Kyle Anderson, De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield.
The core of Curry, Thompson, and Draymond Green showed its age last season, finishing 46-36 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020-21. The Warriors managed to qualify for the play-in tournament but were ultimately bounced by the Sacramento Kings.
Golden State kicks off their 2024-25 NBA campaign on October 23rd against the Portland Trailblazers.
