With their training camp set to officially kick off on July 27th, the Minnesota Vikings shored up their offensive line for the foreseeable future, inking offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw to a massive 4 year extension.
The new deal will keep the club’s 2021 1st round pick (23rd overall) in Minnesota through the 2029 campaign and will be worth up to $113M in new money. Sources indicate that $77M of the deal will be fully guaranteed, with $43.7M due at signing.
Darrisaw earned starting reps early on in his rookie season, and hasn’t looked back since. With the club moving on from veteran QB Kirk Cousins, and preparing to turn the reins over to rookie J.J. McCarthy at some point in 2024, securing the services of a franchise tackle became a priority for the Vikings front office.
The deal also completes a flurry of offseason activity which also saw 14 free agents inked to deals, re-signing 8 of its own players to new contracts, and handing out a gargantuan 4 year, $140M contract to WR Justin Jefferson.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell has consistently praised Darrisaw for his leadership and positional versatility since joining the club. The former Virginia Tech standout will now be linked to the Vikings through his age 30 season when he’ll once again look to cash in as a free agent on another big money deal.
