The 2024 PWHL Draft welcomed 42 new players into the league on Monday night at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in downtown Saint Paul, MN.

Following a wildly successful inaugural season, the festivities kicked off with New York’s selection of Princeton standout Sarah Fillier. The 24 year old was a. 3x Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist during her collegiate career, and has represented Team Canada internationally on several occasions.

The offensively gifted forward recorded 43 points (30G, 13A) across 29 games in the NCAA ranks this season, and will be a key building block for New York to revamp their roster around following a disappointing Year 1 campaign.

Fillier was the first of 28 total NCAA players taken on the night, and one of 13 Canadians selected at the draft. The night also saw the first draft day trade in PWHL history as Boston acquired the 7th and 37th overall pick from New York in exchange for the 10th, 16th and 28th overall selections.

Boston then turned around and selected Daniela Pejšová at the top of the 2nd round, making the 21 year old the youngest player to be drafted, and marked the first international player taken in 2024.

Standout Northeastern University goaltender Gwyneth Philips was the first net minder taken in the draft after Ottawa scooper her up 14th overall to create a dynamic 1-2 punch in goal. And Emmy Fecteau represented the U-Sports community well after New York took her out of Concordia University in the 6th round.

Overall 7 different countries (US, Canada, Czechia, Finland, Sweden, Austria, and Russia) saw athletes drafted on Monday, 13 of which will be joining the league following professional experience overseas.
