Dallas Mavericks Sign Jason Kidd To Extension

The Dallas Mavericks have signed head coach Jason Kidd to a multi-year contract extension the club announced on Monday.

With rumours swirling that Kidd could be intrigued by the now vacant Los Angeles Lakers coaching position, Dallas stepped in to ensure their bench boss was tied to the franchise for the foreseeable future.

“We are excited to have Coach Kidd continue to lead our team throughout the coming years with this well-earned contract extension,” Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont said. “Kidd led our team to two playoff appearances in three seasons, and we are looking forward to his leadership in continuing to build and grow this already great franchise.”

The 51 year old is currently in his 3rd season with Dallas, and helped guide the franchise to a second 50+ win season in the least 3 years. During that time, he’s amassed a 140-106 record in Texas.

“I have known Jason for a long time, and I cannot think of a better, more qualified candidate to lead this team going forward,” GM Nico Harrison remarked. “As a former NBA Champion Hall of Fame player, Jason brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role which cannot be duplicated. He has earned the trust and respect of our players and that of so many across the league, and I look forward to working alongside him as we continue to build upon the culture and foundation of success he’s helped foster throughout his tenure as head coach.”

With Darvin Ham having been dismissed by the Lakers last week, chatter around NBA circles linked the former 10x NBA All-Star to the LA based club. Kidd had previously spent time as an assistant with the Lakers from 2019-2021.

After defeating the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Kidd and the Mavericks will open their round 2 series vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night.
