Miami Dolphins Sign WR Odell Beckham Jr.

The Miami Dolphins have come to terms on a 1 year contract with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. the club announced on Friday.

Though financial figures have yet to be publicly confirmed, reports indicate that the deal is a $3M pact, with incentives which can escalate it up to $8.25M in 2024. The 31 year old will now join a WR group which already features Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, as well as recently drafted rookies Malik and Taj Washington.

The 3x Pro-Bowler previously met with the Dolphins prior to the draft, but a deal failed to materialize at the time. However, following the conclusion of the NFL Draft, the Dolphins and Beckham’s representatives circled back to contract talks and hashed out a 1 year “prove-it” contract.

Speaking to reporters at the league’s AGM back in March, head coach Mike McDaniel said “We did make him an offer, and business takes time, especially with players like Odell, who’s had a phenomenal career and still has really good football in front of him and has options. I think those conversations will be ongoing. We’ll see where they go. I don’t live in the world of crystal-balling, and I do stay in my lane as a coach. I’m definitely ready to coach him if we can come to an agreement, and I think both sides are trying to work towards that. We’ll see what happens.”

While his 35 catches for 565 yards and 3 scores with Baltimore in 2023 is a far cry from his All-Pro days with the New York Giants, Beckham remains a productive WR who can help keep an offence on the field. Now two years removed from from his knee injury, Beckham Jr. will hope to enter the 2024 campaign back to full health for the first time since 2020.

At a minimum, he now gives the Dolphins a veteran WR behind Hill and Waddle as McDaniel & Co. hope to keep their high powered offence humming this fall.
