Thaddeus Young joining Phoenix Suns

Thaddeus Young Joining Phoenix Suns

Free agent forward Thaddeus Young is set to join the Phoenix Suns for the homestretch, adding some much needed depth to their top heavy roster.

After being flipped from Toronto to Brooklyn as part of the Spencer Dinwiddie deal, Young was subsequently waived, making him a free agent. Currently averaging 5pts/3.3reb/2.2ast in 15 minutes of action per night, Young will become an important piece off the bench for a Phoenix team with championship aspirations.

Headlined by the trio of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, the Suns currently sit in 6th place in the Western Conference with a 31-22 record. With a veteran heavy lineup, Phoenix GM James Jones was looking to add depth at the trade deadline and via the buyout market, and has been successful in that regard.

The Suns also brought in forwards Royce O’Neale (Brooklyn) and David Roddy (Memphis) as they sought to add some role players beyond their starting 5, which was already amongst the best in the NBA. Over the last few seasons, Phoenix’s lack of depth has cost them as they’ve lost key players to injury, ultimately derailing their bid to return to the NBA Finals after making a deep run in 2020-21.

Phoenix is next in action Tuesday night at 10pm vs. the Sacramento Kings, however Young isn’t expected to suit up for that contest.
