Blackhawks Claim Jaycob Megna Off Waivers

The Chicago Blackhawks have claimed 31 year old defenseman Jaycob Megna off waivers from the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday the club announced.

After being acquired from the San Jose Sharks in February of last year, Megna suited up for 6 games with Seattle, recording a -3 rating, with no points. The veteran blue liner has yet to appear in a game with the Kraken this season.

The 6’6″ defender has appeared in 141 NHL games since being drafted 210th overall back in 2012 by the Anaheim Ducks. Megna could serve as a depth addition to a suddenly injury plagued Blackhawks roster, though it’s unlikely he’ll be a long term addition to the team’s blue line.

In a corresponding move, Anthony Beauvillier was placed on injured reserve due to a left wrist injury suffered against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Beauvillier becomes the 6th Hawks forward on injured reserve, as the club will likely be making some call ups from their AHL affiliate in the near future.

For now, Lukas Reichel and Nick Foligno are both candidates to assume Beauvillier’s first line role during his absence.

Chicago is next in action against the New York Rangers on Thursday at 7pm ET.
