The St. Louis Blues have announced the signing of free agent forward Oskar Sundqvist to a one year $775K contract.
In 2022-23 the Swedish born centre split time between the Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota wild. Across 67 games, he registered 28pts (10G, 18A) to go along with 28 PIMs and a -4 rating overall.
Sundqvist previously spent time with St. Louis between 2017-22, tallying 83pts (35G, 48A) in 242 regular season contests. A two time Stanley Cup champion, the 29 year old has 37 games worth of playoff experience on his resume, capturing championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and St. Louis in 2019.
Originally taken 81st overall by the Penguins in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Sundqvist has spent the majority of his career with the Blues, which is why he was willing to take a “hometown discount” to rejoin the club. Head coach Craig Berube has spoken highly of the forward in the past, and their existing relationship played a key role in his return.
Sundqvist’s best season came in 2018-19 where he registered career highs in games played (74), goals (14), points (31), hits (101), blocked shots (31) and shots on goal (113).
A 6’3” 220lbs right shot forward, Sundqvist figures to slot in the team’s middle six forward group heading into training camp this fall.
