The San Francisco Giants locked up a key piece of their rotation Friday, inking RHP Logan Webb to a 5 year contract extension.
The deal is worth $90M and will keep Webb with the organization through the 2028 campaign. Webb has compiled a 3.53 ERA with 426Ks across 451.2IP since entering the majors in 2019.
Originally selected in the 4th round of the 2014 MLB draft, the Rocklin (CA) HS alum has spent his entire career with the Giants organization. The 26 year old was San Francisco’s Opening Day starter, however he has struggled out of the gates going 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA thus far.
With a new pact in place, the Giants essentially buy out 3 years of free agency from the 6’1” hurler. Webb is slated to make $8M in 2024, but will see his figure rise to $12M in 2025, $23M in 2026 & 2027, and peaking at $24M in 2028.
In 2021 & 2022, Webb posted a 58.4% groundball rate, 6.1% walk rate, and 23.2% strikeout rate over 340.2IP. He also has a sparkling 0.61 ERA with 17Ks in 14.2IP in the postseason since being called up.
As part of his agreement, Webb will also donate $450,000 to the Giants Community Fund between 2024 and 2028 when his contract expires.
