Ottawa To Host PWHL Entry Draft

The PWHL announced Tuesday that it will hold its third ever Entry Draft in Ottawa, ON at the newly expanded Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. With renovations to the facility set to wrap up shortly, the draft will serve as the first major event to take place in the new facility’s theatre.

Prospective players have until Thursday, May 8th to declare their eligibility for selection in the 2025 draft. Wisconsin’s Casey O’Brien is widely expected to be selected first overall following an MVP senior season in which she took home the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, while also leading the nation in scoring with 26 goals and 62 assists across 40 games.

Other Notable Draft Prospects:

-Haley Winn (Clarkson)
-Rory Guilday (Cornell)
-Abby Newhook (Boston College)
-Anne Cherkowski (Clarkson)
-Nicole Gosling (Clarkson)
-Hannah Murphy (Colgate)
-Natalie Mlynkova (Minnesota)
-Kristyna Kaltounkova (Colgate).

The draft order has yet to be set as each of the 6 teams currently have 3 games remaining following the Women’s World Championship break. Only Montreal has clinched a playoff berth thus far, leaving plenty of room for teams to move up and down the standings.

What also remains to be seen is whether the league will indeed expand by as many as two teams, bringing the league total to 8 professional franchises.
