The 2026 first overall pick in the WNBA Draft, Azzi Fudd, will miss the remainder of the season as she prepares to undergo a surgical procedure on her injured right knee.
Fudd will travel back to Connecticut to undergo an arthroscopic procedure after sitting out her team’s last 5 games with discomfort in her knee. Knee issues are no stranger to the star guard as she previously tore her ACL and meniscus in the same knee in 2023. She also suffered an ACL and MCL tear back in 2019 when she was in high school.
“Most of you probably already saw,” Fudd wrote on her social media accounts Wednesday. “I’ve got a small procedure coming up on my knee and I’ll be out as I recover. I know exactly what comes next: rehab, put in the work, come back ready and better than before. Grateful for my family, my circle, and the Wings organization for the support. Thank you for all the messages today. They mean a lot to me.”
The 23 year old wraps up an impressive rookie campaign in which she averaged 13.1pts / 1.7reb / 1.8ast per game, while shooting nearly 40% (.397) from beyond the arc. This summer she became the first rookie to win the 3-point contest at the WNBA All-Star game, beating out a star studded field of veterans in the process.
Dallas has taken some major steps forward in terms of their win total from 2025 to this season, but have struggled since the calendar flipped to August. 3-7 in their last ten contests, the Wings currently occupy the final playoff spot heading into the homestretch of the season.
Losing Fudd will do little to help improve their playoff chances as a date with the league leading Minnesota Lynx seems more and more likely barring a complete late season collapse by Dallas. With 8 games remaining, the club currently sports a 4.5 game lead over 9th place Portland.
