Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi will be sidelined from hockey activities indefinitely after complications arose during an offseason surgical procedure.
Toronto has been tight lipped regarding details, but did confirm on Monday that Domi will be off the ice for some time after undergoing a medical procedure to correct an issue he played through this past season. The 31 year old is entering the 3rd year of a 4 season deal which carries an AAV of $3.75M.
Some had previously speculated that the club may be looking to move on from Domi this summer. However, with an uncertain future which won’t gain clarity until teams begin ramping up training camp, the front office will be hard pressed to find many suitors for the veteran forward at this point.
Toronto has undergone a massive overhaul since the season ended. The club brought in John Chayka as their new GM, while also adding Mats Sundin as a senior executive advisor. They then relieved head coach Craig Berube of his duties, and proceeded to miraculously win the NHL Draft lottery, and will select first overall later this year.
Originally drafted 12th overall by the Arizona Coyotes back in 2013, Domi has accumulated 150G and 336A over his 11 year NHL career. The native of Winnipeg, MB, has had stops in Arizona, Montreal, Columbus, Carolina, Chicago, Dallas and Toronto along the way.
