Brewers’ Jacob Misiorowski Avoids Major Injury

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski appears to have avoided a major injury after he was removed from Friday night’s 6-1 win over Washington. Misiorowski was cruising along, tossing 5.1IP of no hit baseball until he abruptly signalled to the dugout that something felt off.

After the medical team came out for a quick visit, the 6’7″ righty was removed from the game after recording 8 strikeouts and 2 walks of shutout ball. While his departure immediately sent fans into a spiral assuming the worst, it would appear as though it was simply a hamstring cramp which shouldn’t affect his availability moving forward.

“Just a hamstring cramp,” Misiorowski told reporters afterwards. “Didn’t want to push through it. Thought better to turn it over to the bullpen and let [Aaron Ashby] handle it.”

“Probably about the last warmup pitch and then that whole first batter, I had it,” he continued. “It didn’t really get terrible until that first pitch to Wood, and then it really grabbed. One of those things.”

Eventually, Daylen Lile’s double in the 7th inning broke up Milwaukee’s combined no-hit bid on the night.

Brewers fans had plenty of reason to think the worst as their watched their star pitcher walk off the mound Friday. Only a day earlier the team placed Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day IL due to right shoulder inflammation, while RHP Quinn Priester has yet to pitch this year due to thoracic outlet syndrome.

Milwaukee was also forced to place LHP Angel Zerpa on the injured list earlier this week, with recent reports now seeming to suggest he could be headed towards surgery. The team is already growing thin amongst their starting pitching crew, as Kyle Harrison, Chad Patrick and Brandon Sproat are the only other healthy starters at the moment.

Had the team also lost Misiorowski, their rotation would have been thrown into complete chaos as the calendar flipped into May. The team figures to need to either call up another arm, or have a bullpen day on Tuesday against St. Louis. On the season the 24 year old has a 2-2 record with a 2.84 ERA and 59 strikeouts across 38IP.

His outing on Friday featured 43 pitches of 100mph or more which is the 3rd most 100+ mph pitches in a single game since the stat began being tracked back in 2008.

Milwaukee will take the field against Washington on Saturday and Sunday before continuing their road trip by heading down to St. Louis to kick off a 3 game series on Monday.
