Chelsea Sign Reece James To 6 Year Extension

Premier League side Chelsea and captain Reece James have come to terms on a new 6 year extension which will keep him tied to the club through 2032.

James’ previous deal was set to expire in 2028, but the Blues acted quickly to ensure there was no possibility of seeing their on field leader depart via a free transfer. The 26 year old has made 225 appearances for Chelsea and has been a member of the club’s junior programs since the age of 6.

“I am over the moon to have extended my contract,” Reece said in a prepared statement. “Chelsea means so much to me. I have always said I want my peak years to be here, and I truly believe we have everything it takes to build on our previous successes.”

“I’m excited for the future under this ownership, Sporting Directors, Coach and all the staff, and hopefully we will lift many more trophies together over the coming years.”

Having split time between right back and midfield, James has shown versatility in how he can be deployed for the long list of managers who have made their way through Stamford Bridge over the years.

Sporting Directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart said: “On behalf of ownership and everyone connected to Chelsea, it is a proud moment for all of us to have Reece extend his contract.”

“He is the leader of this team, both on and off the pitch. Reece knows what it means to wear this badge and, having committed his long-term future to Chelsea, we’re looking forward to continuing the journey and working towards further success together.”

Across 26 Premier League matches this season, James has tallied 2 goals and 4 assists, while logging over 1,800 minutes played. Throughout his time with the club, he’s hoisted numerous trophies including a FIFA Club World Cup title, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League trophy and a slew of others while he was part of the Blues academy program.
